August 2021 Free Gift . Wild Child Gin
Thanks to our friend and partner Peter Steger in Berlin, we are offering all of our subscribers a free sample bottle of WILD CHILD GIN. This excellent mixer uses hand-picked junier berries, herbs such as rosemary and coriander as well as Calabrian citrus and bergamot. Careful distillation using the unique sping water captured from the Ore mountains gives our wild spirit a gentle core.
WHITE WINES
Viverello 2020 Bianco . Verona, Italy
Cold-vat fermented in stainless steel tanks to retain freshness and citrus fruit characters, this bright coloured white wine is the perfect aperitif. Chill in the fridge and crack open after work or with your friends for a great drink with light aperitivo snacks!
Tagua 2020 Chardonnay . Central Valley, Chile
Fresh and full of character, this Chardonnay is produced in stainless steel tanks and retains lots of citrus and malic characters – golden yellow in colour, with aromas of tropical fruits (pineapple and mango) and green apple. Soft on the palate, this is excellent with creamy dishes, grilled salmon and pork / chicken.
Kalius 2019 Macabeo . Cariñena, Spain
This rich white wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks from 100% Macabeo grapes. Pale straw yellow in colour, there is a rich citrus fruit character on the nose and freshness on the palate with apple and pear characters offering a long and balanced finish. This marries well with roast chicken and heavier seafood dishes, like paella.
ROSÉ WINES
Orelhão 2020 Rosé . Leiria, Portugal
This fruity rosé is produced with a blend of indigenous Portugese grapes and is slightly sparkling with soft, floral and fruity flavours. The finish on the wine is long and persistent with excellent acid structure. Perfect as an aperitif or with seafood and shellfish, this wine would also fit spicy Asian dishes.
RED WINES
Monfil 2020 Garnacha . Cariñena, Spain
This is produced from high-altitude older vines (35 plus years) and so offers great complexity – red cherry colour with violet tones, intense nose of perfumed fruit, excellent and rich with savoury characters on the palate with a lovely, long finish. Excellent with cheeses, lamb dishes, grilled meat and Asian pork dishes.
Produttori di Govone 2019 Munbari . Piemonte, Italy
A lovely cool-climate Nebbiolo from Piemonte, typically fresh and herbaceous and from a small family-owned and operated winery, who sourced this wine for us from their local cooperative – very special. Plum and cherry fruit, spice and herbs and a beautiful long fish. Definitely one of our favourite reds this month, oozing Piemonte elegance!
Rewen Estate 2019 Malbec . Cuyo Valley, Argentina
BOOM! 100% Malbec cultivated on sandy loam, with full malolactic fermentation. Aged in 25% French and 75% American oak for six months. Deep red-violet colour and a beautiful viscosity in the glass. Aromas of blackberry, plums and a touch of raspberry combined with vanilla notes from the oak. Opulent and round with soft, balanced tannins and a smooth, lingering finish. Excellent paired with red meat, game, tomato-based pasta sauces and full-flavoured cheeses.
