New World and Old World Malbec - A French Classic is Reborn

Malbec is a purple grape variety used to produce red wine. Known for its deep, inky colour and robust tannins, Malbec is one of the six grape varieties allowed in Bordeaux blends. While its origins lie in France, today Malbec is grown worldwide, with notable expressions in both France and Argentina.

Old-World Malbec, primarily found in the Cahors region of South West France, is earthy, tannic, and structured. Grown in a cooler, more temperate climate, it tends to have higher acidity and more subtle fruit flavours. Common tasting notes include black plum, leather, tobacco, and spice. This style pairs beautifully with game meats, duck confit, or mushroom-based dishes.
New-World Malbec, predominantly grown in Argentina, is bold, fruit-forward, and lush. The high-altitude vineyards with abundant sunshine produce deeply coloured wines with soft tannins. Expect notes of ripe blackberry, plum, mocha, and occasionally vanilla from oak ageing. New World Malbec is excellent with grilled meats (especially beef), empanadas, and BBQ.
Mitton Wines is proud to present the Rewen Estate Malbec from Mendoza. This wine offers enticing aromas of blackberry, plum, and a hint of vanilla, balanced by soft tannins and a smooth, lingering finish. It pairs beautifully with red meats, pasta dishes, and rich cheeses, making it a versatile addition to any meal.
You can also discover the full range of Malbec flavours with Brad’s Wine Subscription, which features both Old and New World styles to discover. Each offers a unique take on the grape — try them and find your favourite expression!
