Flagship South African Wines from the Western Cape this August!
South Africa is a fascinating wine destination, renowned for its diversity of grape varieties and quality wines. Situated between the 31st and 34th parallels south, the region enjoys a Mediterranean climate that is ideal for viticulture. Since the first vines were planted by Dutch settlers in 1655, the country has developed a dynamic wine industry, combining tradition and innovation.
South Africa grows a wide variety of international grape varieties, but Pinotage remains its emblematic variety. This cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsault is unique to the country, producing wines with distinct aromas of red fruit, chocolate and coffee. Chenin Blanc is also a flagship grape variety, offering a range of styles from dry, lively wines to sweet, botrytised wines. Other grape varieties include shiraz, grenache and viognier!
One of the most important regions is the Western Cape, the heart of South African winegrowing, home to prestigious regions such as Stellenbosch, Paarl and Franschhoek.
