A Comprehensive Guide to Prosecco – An Italian Sparkler

Prosecco Frizzante Casa Geller - 6 / 12 / 18 cases - free EU and UK delivery

Effortlessly elegant and endlessly enjoyable, Prosecco is one of Italy’s most beloved sparkling wines. Made predominantly from the Glera grape and produced in the picturesque hills of Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia, this charming fizz has grown into a global favourite. But there’s more to Prosecco than its celebratory sparkle—it’s a versatile wine with character, quality, and style.

If you’re looking to enjoy a standout bottle, we highly recommend the Casa Gheller Prosecco - crisp, elegant, and wonderfully balanced. Available now online

Unlike Champagne, which undergoes its second fermentation in the bottle, Prosecco is made using the Charmat method, where fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks. This results in a fresher, more fruit-forward wine with delicate bubbles and vibrant notes of green apple, pear, citrus, and white blossom. It’s light, lively, and easy to enjoy on its own or with food.

Prosecco comes in three main styles: Spumante (fully sparkling), Frizzante (lightly sparkling), and Tranquillo (still, and much rarer). When it comes to sweetness, labels can be a little misleading—‘Brut’ is actually the driest style, followed by Extra Dry and then Dry, which is the sweetest of the three.

One of the best things about Prosecco is how food-friendly it is. It pairs beautifully with soft cheeses like mozzarella or burrata, seafood dishes, sushi, light pasta, risotto, and classic Italian antipasti. It also makes a superb base for cocktails such as the Bellini or a refreshing Prosecco Spritz.

Cheers to Italian sparkle! 🥂
